Q: Anyone editing 4k yet ?

Hey All,

Ordered a 4K camera (JVC) from BH and wondering how this is going to work with FCX?

It also shoots 1080....

Thanks,

Al

    Thanks Russ.

When I typed 4K into search box I didn't get anything or I did something wrong.

    Helpful,.

Just to add, as s you read other 4K discussions (and perhaps from additional responses to your question)you'll find that hardware is pretty key to successful 4K work.– especially a capable GPU and a fast media drive (striped RAIDs, for example).

    Yes I noticed that.

I have a Western Digital less than one year old with 2TB storage.

    My iMac is a 3.2ghz I5

    8gb 1600 MHZ DDR3

NVIDIA GeForce GT 755 1024 MB.

    What do you think ?

    Thanks,

    Al

It should work. 16GB would help, and only 1GB of VRAM may be a little limiting.

    1) If you do want to edit 4K, you should probably edit in proxy.

    2) Many knowledgeable people have pointed out that even if you work only 1080p, you can benefit a lot from shooting 4K. Not only you get sharper images, but the freedom to reframe and resize in post gives you tremendous possibilities.

I've been wondering what the 4k would add to editing if the final product was to be 1080? I'm thinking there is some creative potential with panning and zooming., Has anyone seen any samples of creativity or how it helps to film in 4K but then edit it into 1080?

I can't WAIT to have sharper images !!! I have really old equip  right now.

Most of my customers are just speakers and demo type shoots and wondering how I can take it to the next level .

Will buy some RAM from OWC I guess.

If I max out to 332gig will that make a difference vs just getting another 8gb?

    Where are you UPS ?

    Thanks Luis.

reframing to the max - create a new cam angle for multicam with 4k:

    <click pic to YouTube>

    Concerning pic quality:

lately recorded some book reading in a tiny store... this is NO photo, but a video-screengrab:

    neulich im eselsohr.jpg

… ok, a bit shopped, vignette, colors pushed, some blur to hide faces .... and a title.

Just zoom in to the guy in the blue shirt .... auto-focus, I'm lazy/untalented DoP ...

No additional light, and recorded in 4k, later I had two 'angles', switching btw the two guys (although a reading you never know who's improvising the next joke).

    4k s grrreat!

    Wow.

That's what I wanted to see and very helpful. I have a shoot coming up and I can't wait to get into it.

Haven't used the multicam feature but will learn.

    What's anyone's experience with low light and a 4K camera ?

    Thanks a bunch,

    Al

technically, our stage is some wood and a cloth ....

manual setting of WB and exposure, Auto-focus ....

ok, this one IS prepped ....:

"Herr Schlüter, can you make us some Twilight-ish, pleeeeze?" ....

    sure, dear .......

    (done in Pixelmator)

ok, no real low-light, but dynamics are awesome, colors, details even in shadows....

me happy! Seen lately the follower of the fz1k, the fz300 for 400€!! crrrazy ...

Karsten, what make/model cameras were used for these shots? Did you take the footage?
