Q: Imovie 11 crashes with OS El Capitan
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011), Processor 2,4 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB, OS X El Capitan 10.11.1.
Imovie 11 crashes at random when trying to add a transition, text, importing a movie, etc..
It is enough frustration that the beachball is now ever present everywhere and that I can't even open Google Chrome since I've upgraded to El Capitan 10.11.1, now I cannot edit video which is what I mainly use the Mac for.
I can't uninstall Imovie since I have many unfinished projects that I can't lose.
Please advise.

realityisa, there is a definite problem with iMovie 11 (version 9) and El Capitan. I have yet to find anyone that has been able to run this combination. One of the problems is that when you import photos they go black. So if you plan to run El Capitan you will need to upgrade to iMovie (version 10).
I have been running versions 8 & 9 for several years and love the interface. But the new version 10 is much like Final Cut Pro (which I also have). I don't like version 10 but it seems to run just fine with El Capitan (at least on my iMac. You realize it has been out since Oct. of 2013 so I think most of the bugs are worked out.
Normally when you upgraded to El Capitan that version should have been installed on your computer. If not you should be able to just download from the App Store. I just did that on my MacBook Pro while I was typing this reply and it seems to work fine.
