Q: see server calendar thru Safari

We have a server running the caldav.  The apple clients have no issue.  The people using Windows with Outlook are not having any luck.  Outlook does not have a plugin for CalDav as we know but do not understand.

Some details.  The server sits behind a vpn.  All of the Apple clients can add the calendar in iCal by using the IP address. I would like to know if there is a way to see our calendar thru Safari.  Tech support suggested that if we turn on webservices/websites this should work.  I am not sure I understand or follow.  Our url is not registered as a domain on the web as it was never needed.  Up until this point the server was being used as a file sharing device.

If someone has another suggestion of how to add the CalDav to outlook that would be great.  We have tried the sourceforge.net solution and because our certificate does not include the IP address it does not like that either.

I hope this makes sense.  if it does not or you need me to answer more questions, fire away,

Debbie

You should be able to use the webcal feature.  From a browser, try visiting your server using:

    https://<your_address>/webcal

    Examples might be:

    https://192.168.1.10/webcal

    https://myserver.local/webcal

    https://host.domain.tld/webcal

Obviously, a fully qualified host name is best.  If accessible from outside you will also want a valid cert.

Now this does not integrate into Outlook but Windows users will be able to see a calendar.

Thank you for the suggestion.  When I type that in to IE it says:  cannot display the webpage.  So I am assuming I need to do something on the server side???

On the mac it launches Calendar.

I use the IP address as the url with our server name never works.

    Thank you again.

If I may ask, what address are you using to access the server?  IP?  Hostname?  Are the windows and mac systems using the same name resolutions system?

I don't believe anything needs to be done on the server.  At least I've never done anything other than launching the service.  Now true be told I will also have foundation services like OD and DNS sorted out.  I am not sure of behavior without those services active.

Here is what it looks like.  I left the URL bar open so you can see an example address:

What loads on the server if you load its page?

I get there is a problem with the certificate.  I even installed it and told it to go to the web page anyways.  It takes me to a yahoo search, weird and then a ton of Stanford stuff.  Cool!  But not the calendar.

Microsoft jus needs to play nice!

    Thanks again.
