I followed your instructions and highlighted the desired e-mails to forward, then clicked on message and forward as attachment. When I looked for the e-mails in my mail folder, they were gone. How do I retrieve them into my mail folders.

You aren't speaking to Apple here. This is a user to user forum.
Chances are your forwarded messages are in the sent box. iOS does not run on iMacs. Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac to find your Mac OS X version and update your signature, or tell us what Mac OS X version you have. It would also be helpful to know if you are using Mac OS X Mail on an IMAP, or Exchange, or POP account, and which internet provider gives you your e-mail.
