Q: Windows 7 what CPU and OSX support it under bootcamp

All,

 

I have a failing 2009 MacBook Pro 15 that I run all my development stuff on for Windows. I have Windows Ultimate 7 32bit running on it right now. I wincloan and backup regularly. My OSX is 10.6.8 and Wincloan 3.7.

 

I ask support for Wincloan today about getting a new MacBook Pro to replace this machine and the guy said that 2015 MACS don't support Windows 7 in bootcamp. I really hate Windows as it is and Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 aggrevate me even more.

 

Does anyone know what the latest MACS are that support Bootcamp and Windows 7, so I can search for one of these and fix my problem.

 

Also is this a 10.11.x problem or is it hardware? Because if it is 10.11.x problem then I need to make sure it's 10.x.x that supports Windows 7 bootcamp.

    Please consider refurbished 2013/2014 Macs which are available at http://www.apple.com/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/macbook_pro/15.

     

    You may have to switch to W7 64-bit on the newer 2013/2014 models. Please also see Install Windows 7 and earlier on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support , if you really want to run W7 32-bit, but you will end up with a 2012 MBP.

     

    I have stuck with Mavericks on my critical systems. Yosemite and El Capitan are toys for me.

    Well I think I found out my problem with Win7, may not need to buy anything new. I was trying to run the Windows 7 Ult 64 installation and it would not install. So I was checking my drivers for the machine and tried loading the boot camp 4 drivers again. It appears that my Boot camp 2 driver file:

     

    \ProgramData\Apple\Installer Cache\Boot Camp 2.0

     

    The installed product does not match the installed source(s). Until the matching source is provided the installed product and source are synchronized, this action can not be preformed.


    So it appears as though I am using Boot Camp 2 drivers and cannot update them because the Cache file does not match the installed drivers.

     

    I probably need to fix this first. Is there a list of drivers I can uninstall, or does removing the Boot Camp 2.0 file make sense. I guess removing the file means there maybe duplicates for drivers and that would be a mess.

     

    Thoughts?

In Microsoft wisdom, doing so said to of course run the installer inside your current system to do an install and keep all your contents. Old dog chasing it's tail... typical.

    Can you download Boot Camp Support Software 4.0.4033 to a USB2 flash drive and run setup.exe from the Bootcamp folder. It should repair your existing drivers.

    Are you trying to upgrade from W7 32-bit to W7 64-bit or is this for correcting the driver issue?

    LT,

     

    I did download 4.0.4033 and that is when I get the Cache error. So it appears that the 4.0.4033 will not install. It first tries to un-install the Nvidia drivers and there are 2 script errors there as it cannot unmount the current drivers. Next I get the ok going to install the drivers now hit next to proceed. When I do that is when I get the message that it cannot remove the old drivers because the Cache file for Boot Camp 2.0 is not consistent with what is installed. You know then I get contact your IT department to determine action yadayada.

     

    I am going to try and fix the driver problem first, then move to Win7 64.
