iPod Shuffle (4th generation) not recognized in iTunes (Windows 10)

My iPod Shuffle (4th generation) is suddenly not being recognized in my iTunes (Windows 10 laptop). The laptop recognizes it as "Apple iPod USB Device" with up to date driver software. Is there a way to restore the Shuffle without going through the iTunes program?
