The battery life is drastically worse. In a matter or 1 hr it will drop 30-40% with it being closed. It gets hot on the right side of the computer, and even on the screen. I am at a loss as to why this just started happening.

If that doesn't help, it might be time for a new battery.

Assuming the SMC reset does not help, I suggest you take it in (soon) to an Apple store for diagnosis.

Launch the built-in Activity Monitor application and select the Energy tab. Select
View ▹ All Processes
from the menu bar, if it's not already selected. Also select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Power Assertion
Click the heading of the Preventing Sleep column to sort the process table. Which processes, if any, show Yes in that column?
My macbook pro just started getting really hot, even when its asleep. What could be causing this?
