I just replaced my cracked iphone with apple care. I get home and try to update my new phone and before I turn it on it says, "SIM Required. Please insert a SIM card". Do I need to go back into the store?

You cannot activate an iPhone without a sim. The sim does not have to be
associated with an active cellular account; however, if the iPhone is locked to a
particular wireless provider, the sim must be from that wireless provider.
Is there a sim in the iPhone? How do you get an error message before you
turn on the iPhone?
Sounds like you need to insert your SIM card.
