Q: can't import old iTunes library

Hi, just got a new iMac with 10.11.1 installed. My old mac died and i want to import my old music library from an external hard drive on to the new computer.But none of the songs show up when i mount the folder on the desk top. so how can i get my old library onto the new mac?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

I see you are wanting to import your iTunes library to a new computer from an external HD, but are running into problems. I don't know what process you are using to try to do this, but the following article provides instructions to do exactly what you want to do.
