In Logic Pro X, how do you make the note stop ringing after the length of the note has passed? My notes keep ringing on past the end of the selected note. This is a software instrument.
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)
1. Is it an adjustment with the release setting of whatever software instrument you are using (on the ADSR envelope)? What software instrument is it?
2. Is this an issue when you are playing back tracks in Logic? Maybe it's an issue where you have a sustain pedal ON message recorded, but somewhere you deleted the sustain pedal OFF message.
You have to better describe what your understanding of "ringing" is.

I have a software instrument selected (french horn) and I use the pencil tool to add a quarter note... but the note lasts past the end of the quarter time period. When I add another quarter note, with one quarter space between them, the first note lasts well past the second note, so I get two notes sounding at the same time. How do I cut off the sounding of the first note before the second note plays?
Any chance you have a Sustain CC#64 Event in that place. Look at the Event List or the MIDI Draw.

Are you having this problem at the moment when you are physically playing the instrument, or when you play back a track upon which a performance of the instrument was recorded?
If the latter, do the note lengths in the Piano Roll Pane show that the instrument should no longer be playing? (I've been having a problem in 10.2 with recorded takes missing the "note off" events and resulting in the notes in the Piano Roll Pane stretching on and on, beyond what I had played. I'll be posting about that in a separate thread.)
If the note lengths aren't longer than expected, then I agree with Edgar ... look for a stray Sustain On event in your Event List. Or just check for it by playing the track and then seeing if the notes stop playing if you quickly tap your sustain pedal during playback.
