Q: Keep iMessage once I lost my phone number

Is it possible to keep my iMessage communications on my mac/iPad once I no longer have that same phone number? Can I still communicate with my friends through other Apple devices even if I no longer have the same phone number? I will not have a new number to transfer the iMessage over.

I believe you are saying you no longer have an iPhone telephone number to use with iMessage.

Therefore, use the article razmee209 supplied above to unlink your previous iPhone telephone number, and set up your iMessage communication as described in the article only referencing your Apple ID (without any phone number).
