Q: iPhone stopped syncing Notes with iCloud

iPhone 4

iOS 7.1.2

I use iCloud on a PC browser (Firefox) and I have an iPad 2 with iOS 9

Hi there,

I couple of days ago I realised the notes I was saving on my phone wheren't at icloud.com or on my iPad, and the other way around.

After a couple of test I know Notes on the iPhone won't sync with the online version of iCloud or the iPad.

I already turned off Notes from iCloud (on Settings) on the iPhone (and turned it on), I made sure the folder on Notes is "iCloud" and not just "Notes", but still it won't sync.

Any idea of how to fix this?

Thanks in advance

Btw: I did some tests adding new contacts and new reminders and it did sync, so it's only Notes apparently.

    Hello Lear02,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I see from your post that your iCloud Notes are not syncing between your iOS devices, one running iOS 9, and the other still running iOS 7.  If you have upgraded your notes on your iOS 9 device, then your notes will no longer sync with non-iOS 9 devices, as was warned.  For more information on this upgrade notification, see the information in the article below.

    Before you upgrade your notes

    Take care.

HELP! Since updating to the latest new iTunes and IOS phone update 9.2? a few days ago, my Notes-on iphone5s since then that I have just written are not showing up in the icloud.com Notes section- the titles are there but the content says "loading" and doesn't ever show up. Furthermore, my previous notes from before the updates are NOT showing up at ALL in icloud.com Notes section. Calendar is updating just fine in real time-back and forth, and I have like 3-4 GB of storage unused. I still have all the NOTES still under my icloud section on my actual phone-over 250 of them but they are not saving to icloud. PLS FIX THIS so i don't have to worry about losing them. Furthermore, because of my concern over losing them, I switched on the "on my iphone" notes function, and nothing at all shows up under that heading-old or since the update.

What is going on and what do I have to do to get my ALL my notes to be saved and to show up to iCloud.com? My iCloud is always toggled to backup notes.

Also I am using Windows on my PC, everything else appears to be working well.

    FIX THIS BUG!

So, you are indicating that your Notes on your device are not syncing with iCloud? If they are not, then toggle the Notes option off and back on under Settings>iCloud>Notes.

If that doesn't work, try signing out of iCloud on your device and then sign back on again to see if that will push the notes from your iPhone to your iCloud account.

If that doesn't work, try resetting your device by holding down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them both down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Apple appears, the reset is in progress, and the Slide to Unlock screen will display shortly. See if that resolves the issue.

    Cheers,

When you say Settings>iCloud>Notes is that on the phone or in icloud.com settings?

Is a reset the same as a restore?

    That is on the phone.

Same with the "sign out of iCloud" part. Do that on the phone under Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom of the screen, and sign out.

Also I just tried to log out of icloud and it said - "if you sign out of your account, all Photo Stream photos and iCloud drive stored in iCloud will be removed from this phone." Zoinks.

Yes - they will be removed. Then, when you sign in, they will be pushed back to the device. The only caveat is that if your Photo Stream photos include photos that are older than 30 days old, or that exceed 1000 photos (whichever comes first), anything in excess of those thresholds would not be pushed back because they are no longer stored in iCloud.

But, if you import your photos regularly, then they would be in your Photo library on your computer, and could be sync'd back as an album if you really needed to have them on the device.

Here's my update-Took the ^^ advice and transferred all my pictures to hardrive, so no pictures left on phone and not worried about losing them, looked up which items to do a reset on-looks too scary to do. Furthermore I just did a manual iCloud backup thru iTunes, then logged into iCloud.com thru computer, and I STILL CANNOT SEE ANY OLD NOTES FROM BEFORE my major update of both iTunes & iOS a few days ago, nor does the copy come up from notes recently written since the updates-just the titles, and subtitles.

Apple-you guys have a bug with NOTES and only notes-i've made changes to calendar both thru the phone and thru the website and both are updated in real time. NOTES is the only issue.

Furthermore iCloud.com Notes page looks the same in Windows and Mac, and the same on Firefox and IE. So this is your NOTES bug Apple. Where will my 250 notes go if they are not being backed up?

Have you tried signing out of iCloud and back in again?

There is no "bug" with notes. If there was, we would have thousands of posts about it. I have no issues with Notes. So we just need to figure out what your specific issue is....

Again...the issue is not with the phone-logging in or out of iCloud.com - its with iCloud.com not updating NOTES- and i had 3 errors last nite while logged into it-waiting for the notes to load and I got error report after error report to send to Apple- it said it was a network error, furthermore, there are at least 4 other threads outside of Apple-ie reddit, etc, in the last month that deal with this exact same issue in various ways. On my FB I asked other people and 2 came forward and said their iCloud.com is the issue not updating the notes. The notes on their phone are still there.Just sayin.

The issue involves iCloud (not iCloud.com or iCloud on your phone specifically), but iCloud having an issue syncing between the device and the server. Signing out of and back in to iCloud on your device may help to rectify the issue. I fully understand the issue as you are describing it. Whenever you have any issues with iCloud, if the initial steps of toggling the Notes on and off, resetting your device, etc. do not work, the next step is to sign out of and then back in to iCloud on the device itself.

You can choose to do that or not, but until you perform this step, there is no way to figure out what to do next....

I was having this problem with my iphone 5s right before I upgraded it to 9.2. Now it's fine and all my notes are syncing.
