Problem

After a long period in sleep mode, the Saffire Pro 26 unit, though recognised in Mix Control and Sound Output section in System Preferences, does not play any audio. The Saffire unit has to be either turned off and back on again OR the firewire cable has to be unplugged and plugged back in again. This problem occurs not only with Logic Pro X, but also with other applications such as Spotify or iTunes. This is driving me totally nuts.

Logic Pro X, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

Update: I had contacted Focusrite and this is what they had to say about the problem.

Good afternoon,

Thanks for your email and sorry to hear you are experiencing some issues.

Please note that we do not support sleep mode due to it often disrupting audio drivers, as you have discovered. I would recommend disabling any sleep mode on your Mac (although display sleep is fine). It is good studio practice to full shut down your computer between long gaps in sessions.

Further to the above, in order to get you back to a starting point if you like, please complete the following after you have disabled sleep mode:

Please can you navigate to:

Mac HD -> System -> Library -> Extensions -> Delete Saffire.kext if present

Once done, please navigate to:

Finder -> Go Menu (top of screen) -> hold 'ALT' on keyboard -> select newly appeared 'Library' option -> Preferences -> delete com.apple.audio.audiomidisetup.plist

Once done, navigate to:

Mac HD -> Library -> Preferences -> Audio -> delete both files.

Once done, empty your trash and restart your computer.

Do the issues still occur?

Please let me know how you get on

Best regards

Further update -- Focusrite Support says they don't support firewire or USB and deep sleep. Apparently, you should shut down your system. So basically, what this means is that if you are working in the studio and go out for lunch, you better shut down your computer, which in a real world situation (in the middle of a recording or mix session would be bonkers). I pointed to Focusrite support that changing the sample rate in Mix Control sorts out not playing audio problem and they suggested I should use that workaround rather than fix the problem at their end. I have other Firewire hardware and they have no issues with reconnecting after Mac OS X is woken up from a deep sleep. The logic seems rather strange. So is Focusrite admitting they can't fix firewire and Mac Os X deep sleep mode? This problem does not occur with USB devices (I have a Focusrite Scarlett and it works just fine even after a wake from deep sleep).

Don't know if this will help you but here it goes:

I have a Focusrite Scarlet. Couldn't get the thing to work at all. I went around and around with Focusrite support. They kept sending me different beta versions of drivers and other software. They really tried.

Then I uninstalled everything from Focusrite, all their drivers and software, and then it worked.
