Scan mode

In order to set up my Bluetooth in the car, I need to put my phone in scan mode. I have an iPhone 5S. how do I put it in scan mode as prompted byBluetooth?

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.1

In most cases if the car is giving you the code and asking you to enter it on the phone, you go to Settings > Bluetooth, turn Bluetooth on if it isn't already, and then tap on the device name -- it may show as the name or model of the car and that will take you to the screen where you enter the code.

If you go to Settings and tap Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on, that will automatically scan for devices to connect with.

I did just that,but then I'm asked to enter the numbers 1,2,3,4. Where and how do I do that?
