Could be a bad DVD drive.

Try using a cleaning disk.

You do have a silver tower Mac Pro desktop, right?

No I have a laptop and it is a new dvd. I'll try a cleaning disk. Does apple sell them?

I do not know if Apple has cleaning disk. Any big box store like Best Buy do.
