Error message: Unable to move message: This message could not be moved to mailbox Trash

I upgraded my iPad Air to iOS9 and subsequent updates. Since then, I was experiencing multiple problems with "This message has not been downloaded from the server errors", even though I knew that those messages were indeed downloaded because I read them and left them on the iPAD for action in the near future. After reading some hints on various sites, I assumed that this issue affected POP email accounts. I went to our ISP provided and had the tech resent my network settings and switch from POP to IMAP and create a IMAP account. NOW, I am having difficulties deleting my unwanted emails to trash. If I swipe to the left and hit the red TRASH button, or if I highlight the email and go to the top of the page to put it into the trash bin, I get another error message: "Unable to move message: This message could not be moved to the mailbox TRASH." I have to highlight the email, go to EDIT, select the unwanted email, go to MOVE and then select TRASH before the message disappears. Can anyone help me simplify this process? It used to be so easy with iOS8!

iPad, iOS 7.0.4, iPad Air 64GB WiFi and 3G

This would not be an iOS issue, just a coincidence perhaps related to either a faulty iOS update or something in your account's setup. First try the usual things, Reset or perhaps Reset Network Settings. If that doesn't help, dig deeper and Restore the iPad which erases it and reloads iOS (make a backup first, and you can try loading the backup after restoring but if somethings corrupt then the backup would perpetuate the problem ... so you might try not installing the backup to see if things improve).

The other things to check would be in your mail account's settings on the iPad, see if in the Advanced settings there is an option on where to send deleted messages -- Trash or Archive. Depending on the type of account, maybe there is no Archive option, or perhaps your email account type offers no Archive option but your iPad is set to do so.

Thanks for such a prompt reply. I thought I would check the mail account's settings on the iPad first. When I go to Advanced, the "Deleted Mailbox on my iPad" is checked to TRASH, and the "move discarded message into Deleted Mailbox" is also ticked. While hesitating to do the Restore iPad thing, I thought I would simply shut the iPad down and restart it, since I hadn't done that after the tech changed my settings. VOILA…… my emails can be swiped to trash and/or I can click on the trash icon at the top! I will remember to do that in the future! RESTART iPAD after making changes!!! 😊
