Where do you want to move them to?

If you want move them into your iPhotos library connect the iPhone to your MBA with its USB cable, launch iPhoto and import the photos and videos into the library.

If you want to put the images and videos into a folder on the hard drive launch Image Capture with the iPhone connected as above to download them to a folder on the Desktop.

I tried that. the window opens and for a second all the images from the iPhone were there and then the screen went white. Now, when I hook the iPhone to the MBA and open Photos I get a white blank screen like my iPhone has noting, yet it is full of images and short videos I can't get into the Photos app on the MBA to make a movie. You mentioned Image Capture. as another solution. I don't know were that is on Photo I looked at all the menu items and it is  not there. I want to move all the pictures and videos out of my iPone and put them in the Photos.

Image Capture is an application that comes with every Mac and is located in the Applications folder.
