I'm so fed up with only the Apple app updates (iWork suite, iPhoto, etc) being broken for months now, I'm ready to move to Google Docs. Third party app updates work fine. *** is Apple doing with their own app's updates that causes a problem just for them?!?

Yes, I can work around it by updating from desktop iTunes to my devices, but I'm not always near that computer with my own iTunes library on it!

iPod touch 5th gen and other iOS devices all with iOS 9.1. Though the same issue happened as far back as iOS 7!

Simply turning your iPod off and on could resolve this.

It doesn't. Nor does signing out and back into my store ID.

Then try a hard reset. This does not delete anything on your iPod. Hold down the home button and power button at the same time. Do NOT let go until you see the Apple logo.

Yes, I've turned it off and back on. That is the only way to turn it off and on. Unless you thought I meant sleep? :-) This has been happening since iOS 7 with only the iWork and other Apple apps like iPhoto. It is an Apple problem - apparently third party devs know how to make apps, but Apple doesn't ;-) But seriously - how is it that this _only_ happens with Apple developed apps? So frustrating...

Turning your iPod off and on would be to hold the power button, and then slide the slider. To do a hard reset hold BOTH the power button AND the home button. The phone then restarts automatically. Do not let go until you see the Apple Logo.

My pardon, I read your post too quickly. Since eventually the Apple apps getting stuck in an upgrade loop crashes iOS throughout iOS 7 - 9 on multiple devices, and this did happen again several times today, my iPod has already done the equivalent itself.

Regardless, I have since reached my desktop Mac with my iTunes library, and have been able to install the Apple apps from there, as that works where installation of apple apps on the iOS devices themselves is fundamentally broken.

This is an Apple problem only fixable by Apple taking responsibility. Since they took a year to sort the problem of iCloud services being signed out on their own through iOS 7 - 8 on 512MB RAM devices, as well as other issues resolved and unresolved after months or even years, I will not hold my breath.
