How to EASILY and QUICKLY transfer a single photo from macbook air to iphone?

I can't believe that Apple has no easy way to send a single photo from my macbook to my iphone. No I do not want to connect my iphone with a USB cable to my mac. I want to airdrop the photo or something similar. Something easy and quickly. Airdrop on my mac doesn't even detect my iphone (and I know I'm not the only one this happens to). How can it be easier for me to send a photo to my friend than it is to send it between my own devices. Ridiculous!!

MacBook Air, iOS 9.1

AirDrop has specific hardware and operating system requirements: Share content with AirDrop from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. If either your MacBook or the iPhone you wish to use does not meet them, use the Share option shown above.
