“Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to 'My Passport."

Tried to backup my laptop, but got this message:

“Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to 'My Passport." The backup disk is not in Mac OS extended (Journaled) format, which is required.”

I just bought ‘My Passport Ultra’ and have OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.1 on my MacBook Pro.

Help!

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

Dear Leroy~

First, may I extend my deep appreciation for your prompt and perfect answer.

I had misread the instructions on your link. (I didn't focus on the drop-down 'MS-DOS.')

However, I went back and re-read, without my high level of anxiety, and "Voilà!"

My Passport is now backing up, while I type.

It's extremely reassuring that you "stayed with me," and continued to offer suggestions.

Best,

Sara
