You are using the most recent version of iTunes for OS X 10.6.8, but the message that you are getting means that you need the absolute newest version of iTunes 12.3.1 in order to sync the iPad Pro. Unfortunately, Apple didn't really specify this in their hype about iOS 9 or the new iPhones and iPad Pro.

In order to run the latest version of iTunes you need to be running 10.8.5. If you still have the old iPad, backup with iCloud and then restore that backup. You will not be able to sync photos or music ripped from CD's, but it's better than not being able to restore any backup at all.

There are third party apps that will let you move photos back and forth and I'm sure there are apps that will move the music as well.

Also remember you appear to be using an OS that was released in August 2009 and last updated in July 2011 (over 4 years ago).

There have been 5 major OS releases since then, now on 10.11.....

And yet Windows 7, released in October 2009 is still supported. I'm sure that you will disagree, but I think that kind of s*u*c*k*s IMO.

I don't disagree, how can I, they are the facts.

It may be to do with the fact that Windows 7 is still a major OS for many Windows users where as OS 10.6 is not significant for Mac users.

Windows has had only 2 major upgrades since 2009, so there are a lot of users still on Windows 7 (and many on XP).

I think the number of users on 10.6 will be quite low in comparison, so Apple have to decide how much support they can provide for a low number of users.

It may not be ideal but I can see why they do it.
