Q: MacBook Pro - battery drains when shut down

I use 2014 MacBook Pro by connecting to the electric outlet. When I go to sleep, I close all the programs, and shut the Mac down. Many times when I turn it on again with the electric outlet, I have full 100% charge. Some days, I turn the Mac on and see the charge at 96% or so. I make sure that every program is closed, and the power goes off before I close the lid.

Why does it drain the battery sometime?

When the Mac is turned on, and the charge is about 96%, should I just use it without connecting to the electric outlet as every charge is counted?

Are you turning the MBP off or putting it to sleep?

I close all the programs by quitting and I shut the MBP down completely. I also make sure that the screen and the keyboard are dark before closing the lid...

how much does the battery charge decrease and over what duration of time?

All Lion batteries experience self discharge (meaning they discharge by themselves) at a rate of about 2% per day (depending on temperature).

It usually does not lose any charge. I shut down the MBP completely after quitting all the programs. 98% of time, I have 100% charge when I turn it on next day. But someday, the charge is 95%, which just puzzles me.
If it is supposed to be like that, then it is fine. But then my question is - should I plug in the external power sauce at 95%, or should I just use it unplugged as you only have certain number of charges in the battery life.
