Some books are in the wrong author's name. How can I correct this?

I have just bought an iMac after using Windows for 35 years. I have managed to load my e-books onto iBooks but can't seem to be able to sort them by author correctly as some appear as, for instance, Robert Crais while others appear as Crais, Robert. I would like to put them all in the Robert Crais author list. How can I do this?

I have El Capitan and all the books were downloaded from my PC via an external hard disc. I have tried cutting and pasting but that doesn't appear to work in i-Books. Is this something I can't do or am I being thick?

In iBooks, choose List view at the top of the window. Place the cursor over one of the author names and click and hold the left mouse button. The name should then be editable. Press Return when done.
