Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare from the Mac App Store won't open

Hello.

I've purchased Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare from the Mac App Store a few years ago and played it perfectly till today.

Suddenly when I click on the app icon to open and play, it only pops up once (in the dock) and nothing more happens!

I click it again and again and again - nothing happens: no error or any other message, no light below the icon on the dock - NOTHING!

Does anyone else have this problem too?

Does anyone know why is that and how to fix it?

Please help me! 😢

Thanks.

Dude are you stalking me? Its enough that you're on my Facebook LOL

You play this game too huh? Executive stress relief for us down under...

I just wanna play :-(

Speaking of the granddaughter - she'll be here in ten minutes for Poppy to babysit. I hope I can feed her properly because I haven't shot enough foreigners online in my fav game and I am feeling stressed! Of course this is really Facebook-type chatter and not for the forum... ;-)

Mac users faced trouble with their apps overnight after the security certificateApple uses to prevent piracy expired late on Wednesday.

Applications downloaded from the Mac App Store were temporarily unavailable from 10pm UK time, when a security certificate expired, five years after its creation, with no replacement immediately available.

Even once Apple fixed the error, issuing a new certificate for the apps (with an expiry date of April 2035, this time), users were still faced with problems. Those who could not connect to the internet couldn’t verify the new certificate, while those who had forgotten their password or couldn’t log in to iCloud for some other reason are also unable to use the downloaded apps until they can log in to the service.

Some were forced to delete and then reinstall every app they had bought or downloaded from the App Store, before they could be used, taking to Twitter to vent their frustrations.

These steps fully restored my problem apps including COD2 and COD4:

1) Do one app at at time "just in case."

2) Sign out of the Mac App store and quit the App Store app:

User uploaded file

3) Delete the non-responsive app from your computer

4) Relaunch the the App Store app and sign in.

5) Click on the Purchases tab, then find the app you deleted. The button to its right should say "Install," not "Open."

6) Click "Install."

7) Find the reinstalled app in your Applications folder and see if it launches,

I am back to 100-percent function and lost no saved data from the apps I restored. Downside for some: COD4 is a 7GB+ download. I have 100mbps cable internet so that was not an issue. If you have a slow connection, this will be painful.😢

This is complete garbage.

Apple was the kind of company to not make mistakes like this. It used to be simple, but even to make this comment i have to reset my Apple ID password, which now -- I have to reset on all of my devices (thanks for that).

Apple, please make it simple again, that's why I liked you more than Microsoft. I think they've forgotten the user experience.

also, when you make mistakes like this -- fix them and make things right.

Do you realize the stupidity of your rant? Apple as a company doesn't usually make a mistake such as an expired security certificate because Apple as a company doesn't handle that, most likely a lone employee is at fault. Sadly for them, perhaps they are now no longer employed with Apple.

As to why you had to change your password, I have no idea. I have used Apple since the first Mac in 1984. I have had the same password for my Apple ID since I first created that Apple ID. And I have successfully associated a new email address with that Apple ID each time that I needed to. Why your particular account would mess up I can't say.

It is still simple as far as I'm concerned and it still just works. I'm sorry that isn't the case for you and I have no idea why.

Ok, I get that you want to defend Apple since you've had one since 1984 -- but I don't think my rant is all that stupid. I've been a Mac user since the IIfx, so I have has much credibility as you do, even if I've been a member of this community for three more years than you.

How can you say that Apple "as a company" doesn't handle that and in the next sentence, say that who ever was responsible for it at Apple would be fired? Apple is responsible for the oversight, are they not? It's a sign of the culture at Apple which tells me that the App Store isn't that important.

When ever I login to this forum, it says my password has expired -- which prompts me to reenter it on all my other devices (which I won't list in detail here).

It is undeniable that Apple has changed. They are a hugely profitable company (which I'm not faulting them for -- they deserve it), but they have lost sight on what got them there. They need to go back to their roots.

It's difficult to keep your job when something that you were the one responsible for getting correct has been so badly messed up.

I wasn't stating that I've used Macs since 1984 as a badge of honor, my point was that even though things have changed through the years, I have never had any of the issues that I assist folks with in the Apple Support Communities. It works.

You've obviously done nothing with your 3 extra years of membership in the Apple Support Communities, you're still a Level 1 with a whole 45 points from helping folks.

I would speak to Apple about the password issue;

Account security issues almost always require you to speak directly to an Apple representative to securely establish your identity as the account holder. You can set it up so that Apple calls you, either immediately or at a time convenient to you.

1. Go to http://www.apple.com/support/appleid/

2. Choose Contact Support and click Contact Support

3. Choose Other Apple ID Topics and choose the appropriate topic for your issue (Security questions or password)

4. Choose, No Thanks, Continue

5. Choose the best method for you for contacting Apple
