My husband's Safari not working. Gets an error message and crashes.

iPad2

16 G

iOs 8.1.1 (12B435)

My husband's Safari is not working. It opens to the internet page, displays an error message for a fraction of a second and then then crashes. He has never backed up his iPad2 to iTunes but has to iCloud. He opens anything and everything, so I won't let him use my PC, as I'm afraid that he will pick up malware or a virus and it will land on my PC. He can get on AOL, but Safari is not working. Can anyone help?

I've tried to find something that works, but every solution I've seen directs me to iTunes or to another program to do a backup for his iPad.

Has anyone had this problem and resolved it? I've thought of restoring his iPad, but there's nothing on his screen except something like "delete all data and programs" or words to that effect.

Ignore the data for my iPad2, as it is his iPad with the problem.

Some things to try.

1 Reset the iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.

2. If the above didn't work quit Safari like I describe then reset the iPad again. To quit an app double click the Home button to reveal the app switcher. Flick up on the page preview of the app you want to quit. The page preview will fly away and disappear. That quits the app. You can do this after Safari crashes. Then reset the iPad.

3. Quit Safari again. Then Delete Safari History and Data using the Settings app. Settings > Safari> Delete History and Data. Then reset the iPad again.

4. If none of the above worked, quit Safari again then try Resetting all Settings using the Settings App. Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings. Then reset the iPad again.
