Can I use my iPhone 6 Plus as a controller for my 4th Gen Apple TV?

We just bought the newest version of Apple TV yesterday and with all of its enhanced features, it is not compatible with the remote App any longer and I wanted to use my iPhone as a remote. Is this even possible? Or must I use only the included remote?
