Q: Error Code 1439

I get the error code 1439 on my 160 GB 6th generation IPOD Classic which I purchased from an Apple Store August 2014. I have followed all apples help and advice as posted on If you see error 1415, 1417, 1418, 1428, 1429, 1430, 1436, or 1439 when restoring or updating an iPod in iTunes - Apple … but to no avail, I have updated and reinstalled ITunes but still same problem, I am stumped as what to try next, can anyone help please?

Thanks for the response but I had already seen this posting and it did not help. I will try again just to make sure. Any other advise would be appreciated.

Unfortunately I am at work and can not provide the stat. I will be first thing when I get off work.

Try the DFU restore or reformat options. You need to clear all of the pending sectors before a restore is likely to succeed. It may take a few rounds.

I performed DFU six times and still getting error code 1439. Should I give up or continue with DFU restore options?

Any change in the stats? Did you try the reformat? If you have a Mac owning friend ask them to try restoring it. It may then restore properly on Windows.

Here are the new stats. My Windows reformat failed each time. If you think based on the stats there is still hope of restoring, I will look for someone with a mac.

    I did the following:

    1. Connected iPod to sync cable.

    2. Went to windows explorer window and found my IPOD,

    3. Right Clicked on ipod  drive but there was NO "Format" option to select

When Windows 8.1 automatically prompted me to format my IPOD, only formats available were "exFAT" or "NTFS". I selected exFAT but the formatting failed. I understand IPOD is formatted in FAT32 but I do not know where I can select that. Can you please help?

Put the iPod in disk mode so that Windows Explorer assigns it a drive letter.

    Open a command prompt window.

    Type in:

         Format X: /Q

and press Enter/Return, where X: is the drive letter of the device.

Alternatively make sure that Windows Explorer is showing hidden and system files, then delete everything on the drive. Try restoring again.

Thanks for advice but after following your instruction the format command returned the following:

"The type of the system is EXFAT. Quickformatting 148.9 G. Volume label <11 characters, ENTER for none>? Initializing the File Allocation Table <FAT>...Invalid media or Track 0 bad - disk unusable. Format failed.

Also, after making sure Windows Explorer is showing hidden and system files, I tried to open IPod drive, but as soon as I tried to open it, a window pops up that the drive needs to be Formatted before it can be used.

Back to trying to get a Mac user to try to reformat it then, or giving up on it.
