Q: Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup.  Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed.  When I woke up it was "dead".  It wouldn't wake up.  I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life.  Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand.  Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day.  Came back to it, same thing.  Dead.  I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing.  I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try.  Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

iPad, iOS 9.1, This is an iPad Pro

    i tried to use:

    1.switch to airplane mode

2.switch off wifi and no cellular connection

    3. icloud backup swtiched off

=>>>all useless, once it is plugged to lightening cable and charged to 100%, put in idle and sleep, it will then die.

every morning , I have to do hard reset in order to wake it up.

i think we cannot do  anything, it can only be resolved with ios update in near future.

Random reboots while charging, but also while swiping between apps.  This has to be a hardware problem.

I have the same issue. MY iPad pro has switched off every night while charging, but this morning it required a hard reset to wake it up. I purchased mine directly from Apple Store online.

MIne me is a gold 128g. iOS 9.1

i Am wondering if it happens when it does an iCloud backup.

I Am on live chat with apple and they say...quote.....It is potentially something that can be resolved by a software update, if it is a software issue. I’m looking here and while we have people reporting this issue on the forums, I’m not seeing anything internally about this being an issue we’re watching out for. I’m still looking though on that front.

I had the problem too, when i charged my iPad Pro (silver, 128 GB, WifI+Cell.) for the first time overnight. Enabling Siri solved the problem for me.

You have to have HEY SIRI enabled as well.  Not just Siri

It’s something that didn’t show up in our pre-launch tests we ran. Until we have more information that is the work around. It is under warranty and as soon as we find the cause we will either launch a software update to fix it, or release a news article recalling the defective models for a replacement if it is hardware.

just received this from support...and apparently there is no projected time frame.

Don't know if anyone has tried it,I did post yesterday.

I Bought my iPad pro a week ago, charged it overnight, and like most people,it was dead.Tried everything, but it wouldn't come back to life.Eventually held home and power button together for ages, probably 20 seconds or more, but Apple appeared and then all was fine.

CHarged it again that evening, and back to a dead screen.

AFter a lot to searching and trying different things over a couple of days,I found the solution for me anyway.

GO TO SETTINGS,THEN ICLOUD,THEN BACKUP IN BACKUP PRESS BACKUP NOW,

EVEN IF ITS BEEN DONE AUTOMATICALLY RECENTLY DO IT MANUALLY.

I THEN CHARGED IT FULLY AND NO PROBLEMS AT ALL SINCE.

I DONT HAVE SIRI ENABLED IN FACT THAT WAS NOT ONE OF THE FIXES THAT I TRIED.

IT worked for me and obviously the person I got it from.

    WORTH A TRY

I don't have the problem at all. I go my Pro on Monday and charge it every night while I sleep and it is fully charged and fine when I get up in the morning. So it's not a problem with all of them.

pPadua you need to exchange that iPad.  that's not the issue this forum is talking about.  it's talking about a full charge and then black screen that requires a hard reboot.  if your iPad is restarting constantly then there's probably an actual hardware issue that needs to be resolved.
