Q: Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup.  Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed.  When I woke up it was "dead".  It wouldn't wake up.  I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life.  Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand.  Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day.  Came back to it, same thing.  Dead.  I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing.  I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try.  Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

iPad, iOS 9.1, This is an iPad Pro

There a lot of posts regarding this problem. Try using a different cord to charge. Once I changed the cord, it worked fine. Waiting for Apple to recall the cords that came with the first shipments. Please let me know if that did not solve the issue.

Got this back from Apple... Definitely being addressed in next update

Sorry about the lack of response! We no longer need to gather that data as it looks like Apple has all the information we need about this case. I appreciate you bringing this concern forward, and I can assure you that we are working on this problem! This issue should be resolved in the next update, however, if that doesn’t happen, please email me and I’ll follow up with engineering!

Using an older cable is not the solution.  I've yet to use the cable that came with my Pro, and my Pro is dead each morning (I've always used an older cable).  I also do not use iCloud backups, and so that's not the problem, either.  I haven't tried airplane mode, and so I probably should try it.

However, note that any solution needs to be tested over multiple days.  A one-day test is not going to cut it, as people have reported "solutions" that appear to work for a couple days, but then start failing.

As suggested I enabled Siri and Hello Siri, and after 3 different charges of variable length (one overnight), no more black screen requiring hard reset.  Fingers crossed!

I can't wait to get the pencil. Mine still hasn't shipped. I'm an artist too and I'm so glad to hear it's worth it!

The blackout only happened to me on the third full charge and the two times before were fine so it might be an intermittent bug.

4th charge just got to 100% and iPad is still alive, I will give it another hour for a longer charge.

P.S, Procreate App is awesome with the pencil, I mean it's fantastic!

Get ready for another surprise!  I tried my SD card reader to transfer new photos from my camera to my new iPad Pro this morning for the first time and it won't work either.  Worked perfect on my iPad 4 the last couple of years but not on my new iPad Pro.  Come on Apple!  What's going on here? We are your supporters!  We buy your best new products!  Please, for the love, say something!  What's up with these fixes?  New download coming?

These are real people with real problems who bought your new product and you won't even acknowledge these issues?  Maybe if we all together start warning the general public in every forum out there that you just don't care!  All these problems are real and we get nothing from you?  I for one have been a supporter of Apple for years and for this new iPad up till now!  However, my opinion is changing fast because you seem to think you're just too big to bothered now and we can all just go jump in the lake?  Think again!

Disable iCloud backup not enable. Here again what helped me. Thanks to the one who posted it here.

I did the following which immediately resolved the lock-up problem and remained lock-up free for several nights.

    • enabled Siri
    • disabled backup to iCloud
    • disabled automatic sending of diagnostics to Apple
    • disabled "Do Not Disturb"

Count me as another for whom enabling "Hey Siri" fixed the problem. I'm not backing up to iCloud, I don't send diagnostics, and I do have Do Not Disturb turned on.
