Q: Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup.  Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed.  When I woke up it was "dead".  It wouldn't wake up.  I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life.  Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand.  Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day.  Came back to it, same thing.  Dead.  I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing.  I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try.  Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

iPad, iOS 9.1, This is an iPad Pro

Thought I had it licked by changing the cable that came with the iPad Pro. It was working for about five days without incident when it stopped working without a hard reset after charging. I know Apple is working on it, but when will they fix the issue?

So my new iPad Pro has only balck screened on time since I got it which was the first night.  Since then it is working fine in the morning.  4 nights, it's on in the morning.  BUT - iCloud Backups have not occurred each night.

I do find this suspicious and am posting for visibility.  I am able to perform the back up with out issues (though at times it fails and says the backup could not be completed - when that happens I hit backup a second time and it completes).

Can't say it's iCloud, but in my case when it doesn't try to backup - it wakes up.

I switched on the hey Siri option last night and then left the iPad on charge overnight. Worked fine this morning. Will see how it goes over the next few days.

After I did the clean wipe and install of my iPad 32GB yesterday, I kept iCloud off, along with Siri, and I have not had the funny charging problem since (hoping it stays that way).

I am thinking it is what everyone else is thinking: faulty cable, something strange with the cable and iOS 9.1, or something else with the software. It has to be some type of strange bug, because in my opinion, after you wipe an iPad, hardware problems just do not "go away," especially after all of these little things that we keep trying to do to fix the iPad.

    Thoughts?

I cannot say why, but having been 4 days since I tried this fix, I can unequivocally say that making sure the "Hey Siri" function is set up and turned on fixed this issue for me.  I would encourage all who are experiencing this to give it a try.  After having it not wake from charging 5-6 times I found this thread and tried this fix. Since then, not one issue.

You need to make a different thread for your sd card reader issue, it's a totally different problem and will just get lost in this thread.

HI  - I am on my second iPad pro and even that had same issues until we wiped it completely clean and then took out/erased the ios 9.1 using iTunes, and then installing the ios 9.1 again from fresh via iTunes, and set up as a new ipad rather than using  back up. When all working, wiped clean again and then set up from back up. All 100% ok.

Forget, Sir, icloud, cables, if you have coffee instead of tea before going to bed etc etc etc. It is quite clear that the problem stems from a corruption of the ios 9.1 operating system. It seems to work fine when doing as above using a newly installed ios 9.1 operating system.

"If it were possible to teleport a person from one pod to another  - like in the film Fly, then imagine if part of the brain went missing during the transfer". This is how apple explained it to me after 4 hours on the phone with them, trying everything else. I have had a week of no issues with charging or back ups. No email issues either. (my fist ipad pro did not like being reset 5 times and actually destroyed itself - Apple say they have never seen this before!! There is no cure for this issue in my view, without changing the ios 9.1 from iTunes. Please try it.

Have the same issue, just talked to an Apple support tech and she wanted me to do a restore via itunes and see if it would help.  I mentioned this thread

but she did not seem to interested in this. Hopefully with constant and numerous complaints Apple will look into this issue.

Thanks so much for your advice varchar and I will take it under advisement, in the mean time, it may have a direct connection to this thread as well in that it came about as ISO 9.1 was released and for me, I upgraded all my Apple devices at the same time.  Before that they all worked just fine with the camera kit.  Since my initial purchase of the iPad Pro on day one from the Apple Store and I experienced the same problem as everyone here has experienced, I have been in touch with Apple tech support and allowed them to extract data from my iPad Pro via my PC trying to help everyone on this thread find the root cause of all the issues associated with Iso 9.1 and that includes the camera kit.  My hope was that I might find someone else on this thread with a camera kit problem in transferring photos from an SD Card to their iPad Pro as well.  I can't get an answer from Apple on this so my hope was that anyone else having this issue might share that info.

I Have done a force iCloud backup and enabled hey Siri and 3 days of no issues, so for some reason that worked.

After receiving the iPad Pro I experienced the same problem.  What I did was completely powered off by holding power button till the slider appeared.  Then I plugged in the unit overnight at least 8 hours.  In the morning I turned on the unit and it seems to have solved this issue.  Give it a try and let me know if it worked for you.

I'm having the same problem. Just got my new iPad pro today.  I set it up.  Charged it and couldn't get it to turn on.  Just a black screen.  The only way is to get it on is holding the power button and home button for quite a while.  I'm shocked.  This was an expensive tablet and right now I want to give it back.  Will be calling tech support in the morning.

apple should be ashamed - this is not a way to launch a new product
