Q: Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup.  Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed.  When I woke up it was "dead".  It wouldn't wake up.  I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life.  Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand.  Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day.  Came back to it, same thing.  Dead.  I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing.  I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try.  Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

iPad, iOS 9.1, This is an iPad Pro

To everyone who has enabled SIRI, do you realise that every time you use it, it sends your information to Apple?

Such as  your name, contacts,  song book, photos, and location.

Apart from that, why should you have to enable SIRI just to make a so called "State of the Art" tablet work?

i loathed SIRI, when on my iphone, and have never used it, I certainly would not want it on my ipad.

I had two ipad pros, both failed in the way detailed by hundreds of others, and has now gone back to Apple for a refund.

I shall not buy another, until

    a) Apple acknowledges the fault

    d) Puts right that fault, expeditiously, or replaces all the faulty tablets

    c) Publicly apologises

Well, her is my update. I hAd to do a hard reset for the first three nights. Last night I enabled Siri plus before I shut down the iPad Pro, I shut down the iPad Pro with the sleep key . Then I brought the iPad Pro up again I connected The iPad Pro to the charger --  about 50% left in the battery level. I got up this morning and I was able to just wake up the iPad Pro and it worked fine.  I am not sure if it was enabling Siri that did the trick or doing the sleep button shut off of the iPad Pro and bring it back up again that did it or it was a combination factor   However, I agree with Proy, that for a new quality products such as this, one should not have to resort to such tricks. Will follow up in the next couple days to let you know how this works or continues to work.

OH MY GOD??? REALLY?? Everytime I enable Siri it sends stuff to Apple???? Why didn't anybody tell me this????

Oh wait, they did, and I don't give a you-know-what. Guess what, every time I use Google mail or do a web search, stuff gets sent to Google. Spare me your outrage. Big deal, you've got to reboot your iPad each morning and wait 15 whole seconds to get your Angry Birds fix. Give me a break. Turn on "Hey, Siri," wait for the next iOS update to be released, and suck it up, buttercup.

    SAME PROBLEM; VERY FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

APPLE SHOULD REALLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS; SPENT OVER A 1,000 DOLLARS ON IPAD AND THIS IS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED!

I have had the same problem with my IPAD PRO 128 GB Cellular. When I contacted Apple this morning, they said that they will release a software patch soon. Great device though.

GGood news -- that the proble, is being acknowledged by Apple as a software problem;  now the question is, how does Apple define "soon"!!

2@Me day of it working -- just the opposite solution -- I turned on Hey Siri and also did a shut off by pressing the sleep button and slide bar to off. Br0ight it up again and the I pro has successfully recharged and stayed on for two successive nights. Read another post where someone did speak to Apple and Apple stated a patch will be coming out soon. As I said before, good that it is a software issue and not hardware.

    I have a solution:
Take the 10W power adapter from your iPad Air 2
7 days so charged the battery and without any problems.
Once I take the 12W power supply from the iPad Pro I have a black screen and it helps only a hard reset.

Here is my experience with this issue:

    • 128GB white WiFi purchased directly from Apple
    • Set up as new
    • Never enabled iCloud Backup
    • Enabled Siri but not Hey Siri

    1. Full charge 1 - overnight - woke up dead and required hard restart
    2. Full charge 2 - overnight - woke up dead and required hard restart
    3. Googled the problem and found this thread
    4. Enabled Hey Siri (thanks, guys!)
    5. Full charge 3 - overnight - woke up normal
    6. Full charge 4 - afternoon - woke up normal
    7. Full charge 5 - overnight - woke up normal

So enabling Hey Siri solved the problem for me

Same thing happened to me. Bought iPad Pro a week ago. Got the smart cover for it as well. Everytime I plugged it in over night, it would not start and had to use a hard reset to start it. Took it back and got a new one. Same thing happened last night. I was ondering if the magnets on the cover maybe affecting the internal workings?

Try to reset the iPad by going to Settings-General-Erase-All Content and Settings. If this does not work go to an Apple Store and/or wait for an update.

Just Enable "Hey Siri" and it won't do that again.

Please don't reset the ipad..  OMG, pretty sure it's been proven time and time again that that is not the solution.  Please look at the other possible fixes, or wait for the ios 9.2 update.  Almost everyone that does the reset/erase option just has the problem come back because it's a problem with IOS 9.1

(condensed summary of some of the solutions that have worked)

    - Try a different cable & charger if you have another 12W brick and lightning cable

    - Enable Hey Siri

    - Check the icloud backup and try disabling that

    - Try turning on airplane mode when charging

Those are some of the non-destructive options.  Please don't just reset everything though.  Some people get into a loop of doing that, and then just make things worse for themselves.
