Q: Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

 

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup.  Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

 

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed.  When I woke up it was "dead".  It wouldn't wake up.  I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life.  Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand.  Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day.  Came back to it, same thing.  Dead.  I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

 

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing.  I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

 

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try.  Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

    So far the problem hasn't returned for me. 

     

    The first thing I did was power off the iPad and plug in the charger.  It booted back up and charged over night and it was fine the next day.

    Then the next day I did a manual  iCloud backup but left it turned on and then I enabled "Hey Siri".

    I'm using the same charger and cable. 

     

    It's only been three days, but so far so good.

     

    I agree there is no need to reset/erase the iPad.  It's something going on in iOS 9.1.

    Here is my updated experience with this issue:

     

    • 128GB gold WiFi purchased directly from Apple
    • Set up as new
    • Never enabled iCloud Backup
    • Enabled Siri but not Hey Siri

     

    1. Full charge 1 - overnight - woke up dead and required hard restart
    2. Full charge 2 - overnight - woke up dead and required hard restart
    3. Googled the problem and found this thread
    4. Enabled Hey Siri
    5. Full charge 3 - overnight - woke up normal
    6. Full charge 4 - afternoon - woke up normal
    7. Full charge 5 - overnight - woke up normal
    8. Watched two videos many times in the Photos app because the Civil War trailer came out
    9. (I have watched iTunes movies in the Videos app but not any videos in the Photos app prior to this, not sure if related.)
    10. Full charge 6 - overnight - work up dead and required hard restart

     

    C'mon, Apple! I paid good money for this product!

    Same problem here.  Just iPad Pro doing it.  128GB, LTE.  All other iOS devices are normal.

    Same problem here. My iPad Pro 128 GB WiFi wakes up dead after every full recharge running iOS 9.1. Hard reset works. Minor inconvenience; waiting for new software release. No other iOS devices [iPad Retina, iPad Mini 2nd. gen, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6S Plus] affected. iPad Pro was set up as new iPad and not restored from a backup.

    I am having the same issue. Now not even the hard reset works. I have to try a couple of times to hard reset. I don't have any peripherals and have turned bluetooth off. Will now be one of the many lining up a the Genius Bar since I tried the online support route without any luck. Really, Apple. Been with you since my first laptop: end of 1991. This is unacceptable. I feel like a guinea pig in your test of a product you should have tested. At this price?

    Same here. iPad Pro 128Gb WiFi only. Device locks up (black screen, no reaction to touch or buttons) when left on charger for some time. Only hard reboot (Power + home for about 10 seconds) helps. Major annoyance.

    I Have both the 12 watt and the 10 watt charger and I get the issue with the 12 watt charger but not with the 10 watt charger. Any one else tried this?

    Using 9.2 public beta now for 10 days, 10 days no problemo with charging and waking up.

    I was going to buy a 128Gb Cellular Pro today, after discovering this thread I would assume the advice from most of the affected users here would be to hold-fire until Apple has sorted out this issue.

     

    Hope Apple standards are not beginning to slip since the departure of late Steve Jobs.

    Wish I had waited for the next model! Not even 'Hey Siri' works. But I am going to try the Apple Beta Software Program. After backing up, of course. Sigh.

    iI've been having the same issue with my iPad 4th gen retina. seems that every couple minutes it "restarts" ... I also have not been able to got a full charge out of it since the last iOS update.

    im thinking it may be the lightning cable, but it seems like lots of ppl have the same or similar issue.

    oh yea - my iPhone5s is drawing power at seemingly double the rate it used to.

    imits not restarting or hitting the white Apple like my iPad, but something is up with either syncing, the cable, iOS, El Capitan, or all of these.

    128GB Space Gray Wifi/LTE…

    I was having the same issues and as everyone else.

    I went ahead and downloaded the 9.2 public beta and I haven't had a single issue since.

    I highly recommend it if you are tired of rebooting in the morning.
