How can I sort slideshow photos chronologically?

I have my photos tagged with the date of the photo but when I create a slideshow with them, they appear to be inserted into the slideshow randomly, not by date. How can I have my slideshow have all the photos in chronological order? Is this only possible manually or is their an import trick?

Thanks.

Sort the album with your photos by date before you add the photos to your slideshow. Then drag them one-by-one to the slideshow in the order you want them. There is no option to sort the photos in a slideshow by date. They will appear in the slideshow in the order you drop them into the album.

You can arrange them manually in the filmstrip below the slideshow.

Some of the themes will rearrange the slideshow slightly to fit them to the templates.

I've done some further testing. Now, with Photos 3.2 it looks like a sorted slideshow can be created from an album, if the album has an automatic sorting - by title or by date. As soon as I apply some manual sort to the album, all is lost.

But if I sort the album by date - ascending or descending, then ctrl click the album and use "Create slideshow", the resulting slideshow seems to have the same sort order as the album. And it is now possible to open the Info panel for a photo in the slideshow. So we now can copy and paste the title from the Info panel to a text slide to add a caption. Also, the automatic placement of the photos does no longer put portrait photos into placeholders for landscape photos or vice versa.

But otherwise it is still very limited. The Live Photos are only still photos in a slideshow, and there is no way to add the titles of the photos automatically to the slides.

Highlight the album Control right click, and choose Create, then Slideshow and the photos should appear as in your album. You can then add music and time control (which symbols are on the right hand side). If you have started playing the slideshow and then decide you want to add music and time control pause the slideshow and press the esc key and then set the music and time . If you want to change the music make sure your delete the old music before you choose new music. I put my theme on classic as you only have one photo at a time. Some of the other themes the photos are shown differently.

I went back and reran my slideshow directions and got exactly what you did. My previous test run must have been with Photos 2.0.

At least while 32 bit apps work I'll resort to using iMovie 6.5.1 HD for making slideshows into movie files. It's the best iMovie version ever created and a modified version of it has been created that works with High Sierra and previous systems.

The method you describe above, select all the photos, then select "Create Slide Show" from the File menu, does NOT work. Whether I select all the photos or not, whenever I select "Create Slide Show," all the photos get jumbled up. I have 200 photos, and I am NOT going to drop them into the slide show one at a time. ARE - YOU - KIDDING - ME? I am using High Sierra, MacOS 10.13.2. Did something change? iPhoto was terrific at making slides, versatile, and easy to use. I wish Apple would STOP messing with the things that work and fix things that do not.

So what is the solution for all of us who have upgraded to High Sierra? The other slide making software in the App Store are junk.

If I put my slides in an album, sort them by date, select all of them and create a slideshow via the File ➙ Create Slideshow menu option the images will appear in chronological order in the slideshow.

In fact, if ordered in an album, selected and the File menu option is use the image will be in the same order as they were in the album. This is with Photos 1.2 and El Capitan 10.11.1.

OMG Thank you so much! I have always organized my slides in the album first and then clicked on Create Slideshow once they were ready, since organizing a bunch of slides in the slide program itself is way too hard. When that did not work I clicked everywhere hoping for a way find out how to do it after the Photos update. I was ready to throw in the towel when I was able to find your response above. You are a lifesaver!
