Q: Mac Photos new app

I recently updated everything so I no longer have iPhoto library anymore.  When I import my photos from my iPhone to Photos, I can no longer sync them back to my phone without buying the icloud sharing.  Is there a way to do this without giving in to paying the $0.99 a month?  I would like to have all my photos on Photos on my iPhone but it seems impossible.  On iTunes you can not select Photos library when syncing photos with iTunes.  please help someone

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

Has your Photos library been enabled as the system Photo Library?

Check your preferences in Photos:  "Use as System Photo Library" should be grayed out as shown below.

    Screen Shot 2015-11-13 at 20.01.43GMT.png

Enable this option, then quit both Photos and iTunes, restart both apps and try again.

And iCloud Photo Library must not be enabled on your iPhone and on your Mac.

If "Use as System Photo Library"  has already been enabled, and it is still not working,  repair your Photos Library as described here:

I'm unable to click that option.  I disabled icloud photo on both Photos and my iPhone and I can still not click on that option.  is there something else I need to disable so I can use that option.

If this option is dimmed like in my screenshot then it is set and it is o.k.

Where is your Photos library? Is it in your Pictures folder or on an external drive?

Which version of MacOS X do you have?  And is iTunes the latest version?

My MacBook is on El Capitan 10.11.1.  ITunes is 12.3.1.23.  I tried the repair and that didn't really help with anything.  Mine has Use as System Photo Library selected like yours.  The only problem is, when I connect my iPhone and go to the photos section on iTunes, I can not select the Photos folder to sync my phone with.  I have Photos in the Pictures folder on Finder.   No external hard drive.

Does the Photos Library not show at all, or does it not open when you select it?

The first time you try to open it, it may take a very long time, several minutes.

Another reason for not being able to sync might be corrupted iPod Photo Cache.   Try to remove it as described here:

In ITunes, there is the Copy Photos from: selection box.  Currently mine says Pictures in it.  If I got to choose folder, I can see the Photos Library, but I can not select it.  I can only choose from my other picture folders.

In iTunes you should be seeing "Sync photos from".  And you should be able to set this selector to your Photos library.  The library should appear in the menu.  Don't select the Pictures folder or another folder.

    Like described here:  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201313

If your photos are in an app

If you're synching from Photos, only your System Photo Library is available in iTunes.

    1. Choose the application you want to sync photos from in the pop-up menu.
    2. Choose to sync all photos or selected photos.
    3. Select "Include videos" to sync videos stored in that same app.

OK we are getting somewhere.  My iTunes doesn't give me the option to sync photos from.  It only gives me the option to copy photos from.  My iTunes sync looks entirely different.  Is there something I can change in the settings to get all of those options because apparently I have a setting wrong in my iTunes somewhere.

For me it looks like this:

Did you select your iPhone in the device drop down in the toolbar?  And then the photos icon in the sidebar?

I restarted my computer again and for some reason it changed the appearance and gave me the same options that you had.  Thank you for helping me through the problem.  Solved some other issues I was having in the process.
