Q: new apple tv won't sleep when tv sleep timer turns tv off

I use a sleep timer on my tv while I watch shows on my new apple tv 4.

The tv turns off but the apple tv keeps running all night.

i have the apple tv sleep timer set to 15 minutes.

when i turn on the tv again, apple tv has gone through hours and hours of episodes, whether from netflix or my purchased shows or even home sharing.

How can this be fixed,? my electric bill is growing.

Thanks in advance.

ps never had this issue with old apple tv 3

I understand that the sleep timer on your Apple TV is not working as you would expect. To begin troubleshooting, I would suggest restarting your Apple TV and testing it again.

If the issue continues after you restart the Apple TV, the next step would be to restore it and test.

I have the same issue with a brand new 4th gen Apple TV out of the box. Resetting doesn't do anything. Is this maybe a bug with the new Apple TV? It will turn my TV on but when the TV is turned off it doesn't recognize that the aTV should turn off as well?

I don't think the appletv can tell that it was a sleep timer that made the tv connected over hdmi not be on anymore if that is the case then if you get what you wish
How do I play music with the TV off? <-- these guys get their feature bombed

I don't think it matters how the TV was turned off just that it is off. I have three other aTV's 3rd gen that would turn off once the TV did so it is clearly a problem with the new ones. Did they take the functionality away or is it a bug?
