iPad pro screen cracked!

cant believe less than 24 hours after buying my iPad pro, left it by the side of the bed and in the morning accidentally knocked my watch off the bed table (an I watch at that!) and the 2ft drop was big enough to crack the screen! Beware as I've had 3 iPads in the past that have taken much abuse and never cracked a screen, the iPad pro is very flimsy and has a weak screen!!!!!!!!

My office purchased several 12.9" iPad Pros last year. When my iPad of many years finally bit the dust last month, I asked for a new one. One of my co-executives heard me say I wanted a replacement and then told me I could have his because he never uses it. I was thrilled to get what was essentially a never used large 128gb Verizon-enabled iPad Pro. When he handed it to me, he said, I liked the machine for about a month, but it got a crack (and it was in a very nice case). Sure enough a hairline crack right down the middle. I did a little research and EVERY executive that got this iPad had the same issue within a few months of use, and now no longer uses the device. And our office will not by any new iPads and have completely switched to the Surface Pro.

Very disappointing. I consider myself a true Mac/Apple fan. Had Macs ever since 1987, numerous iPads, iPods and almost every generation of iPhone. Only one technical problem in all that time and only one crack in an iPhone (very much due to user malfeasance).

I even received a loaded Surface Pro 4 back in January (which is an excellent computer), but now that I've spent a few days with the iPad Pro (even with the crack), I can tell you it is a so much more superior product; but for the obvious unreliability of the screen.

I hope Apple can make the next gen large iPads with a more reliable and stronger screen. The picture is gorgeous, but the crack is probably going to lead me in the same direction of not using it as its previous owner. (Note: this problem apparently only occurred in the 12.9" screen - very few had this problem for any of the 9.7" iPads purchased.)

My daughters iPad Pro 9.7" (in a protective case) just fell over dropping 12 inches to our wood floor and the screen completely cracked. It did not hit any sharp objects. Between personal purchases and 2 work iPads, we have as a family had about 10 iPads since the original that have fared much better with more severe trauma. Hers has also had intermittent audio issues since the first month of purchase. I was told when I visited the apple store that they don't replace screens and that they would sell me a new one for $379. I confirmed this (after an hour long phone call) with Apple Care. I am now looking for Authorized Service Providers that may be willing to fix it.

I am disappointed with the product (clearly it is way more fragile than any other iPad) but more so with their response. What an environmental waste for a so-called "green" company to bin it and sell you a new one for a cracked screen on a less than 1 yr old device. Guess I should have paid more attention to the iFixit report before purchasing. I jumped at it for the pen (she is an animator and artist). Guess that $100 pencil was a waste of money since I will now replace with the cheapest iPad possible (her school requires one) and get her a Wacom tablet for animation.

Sorry to learn about your daughter's iPad Pro issues.

FYI, IF you would have purchased AppleCare+ warranty protection, within the FIRST 60 days of purchase, AppleCare+ would have covered that iPad for two years and 1 incident per year of accidental damage.

A new, replacement, refurbished iPad Pro, would have only cost you $49. U.S.D..

With other, regular iPad models, you CAN use other third party, made for iPad, smart Bluetooth stylii from Adonit, Wacom or The Joy Factory, that work fine with iPads.

I actually use and prefer Adonit stylii and use an Adonit Pixel with my own large screen iPad Pro.

The Apple Pencil, I feel, is very overrated.

If you get her another iPad, third party Bluetooth smart stylii are cheaper than the Apple Pencil.

If you purchase another iPad for you daughter, make sure to purchase AppleCare+ for it either at the time of purchaee or within the first 60 days of purchase.

If something should happen with this iPad, you will only pay the nominal $49 for a refurbished, replacement iPad!

Currently, the cheapest NEW iPad model is Apple's new 2017 iPad 5, Wifi only, 32 GBs model.

Good Luck to You!

My wife has a 12.9 iPad Pro. She bought it when they first came out about 18 months ago and she loves it. It has always been in a case, has never been out of the house (we have smaller iPads for out and about) and it has never been dropped. There is not a mark on it.

Well, there wasn't a mark on it until about 2 months ago when a crack appeared at the corner. She is so careful with it and has no idea how it could have happened. Because it was a small, single hairline crack in the corner, she decided she could live with it.

But then this weekend she was using it and while she was looking right at it, two cracks slowly made their way across the screen. It was sitting on her hands, not being held by the sides or flexing at all.

She phoned apple support and they opened a case and said to take it to the London Covent Garden store on Monday. They had a quick look at it but when they realised it was out of apple warranty said it would need to be returned to John Lewis where it was originally purchased.

I went to John Lewis at Stratford and I was amazed how unhelpful they were. Their customer service is usually so good. The woman in there said it was clearly accidental damage despite what I told her. She said go to apple and if they admit it is a manufacturing defect, JL would send it away for repair.

So then I went to Apple in Stratford, explained it all again. The first staff member told me that they had seen this a few times. The genius I saw said it looked like accidental damage.

I can see their point but they are basically calling me a liar. They must get people in there who have dropped their phone/iPad and try to blag a free one, but still I was disappointed.

I don't need to tell lies. I can afford a new one, in fact, it is being delivered tomorrow.

We love our apple gear but this has left a bitter taste.

I'd just advise anyone buying an iPad with a larger screen to get the Apple care or equivalent that includes accidental damage. My experience and the weight of evidence in these pages suggests to me that there is a problem with these screens. They seem very fragile. My iPad 4 has been all round the world with me and is in perfect condition. Something is not quite right.

Well, just a few ago, I had the same experience as you!!

Sitting on the couch, just browsing on the web. Then I walked to my radio system, plugged in audio-jack to play a tune, went to toilet and when I came back my screen was cracked?! Just one crack from right side bottom corner close to home button!!

For sure nothing happened! Before on the couch, didn't sit at it, or what ever. It just cracked!! Wondering what to do now? Apple probably will not believe this story, but definitely there must been some tension in screen... Really, this is crazy!!

My husband bought me the I pad pro a month ago and now it has a crack in it. It was not drop or anything. It was fine when we went to bed and the next morning I got it to use and noticed the crack on the bottom right hand corner and the only thing I can think of is the protective case that I have on it. It's just me and my husband here and he doesn't mess with it. I had a I pad air for a couple of years and never had this problem. It's crazy to pay this much for something and it messes up like thIs. Right now I can't affird to get it fix. I have but a screen protector over it and seems to be working fine. You can't feel the crack but you can see it.
