Q: El Capitan bootcamp with Windows 10 on Fusion drive

I'm having the issue on trying to install windows 10 on a 2015 iMac with bootcamp assistant - OSX el capitan.

Everything works fine until the windows installer asks me to choose the bootcamp partition, which i do (bootcamp in name), I format it using the format button, which i do... then get the message "we couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one" over and over again when I choose the new formatted bootcamp partition. I know its the right partition because it has the allocated space being consistent. I remember this happening before, but unsure how I got around it.

Is this an issue to do with permissions? Is it to do with the fusion drive?

This was using a downloaded iso of windows 10, and going through the right steps with bootcamp.

Thank you for any assistance.

I am having the same issue.

I've seen some instructions for using 3rd party software to "fix" the partition, but I haven't been able to find instructions for doing this with a Fusion drive.

    Anyone have any information?

    Thanks!

HAve you tried removing all other USB devices beforehand? this simple task was the issue all along for me.

i had other HD's and flash drives plugged in for the format disk stage, which obviously screwed up the process.

leave just your mouse in the usb slots for install.

I've been struggling with this for several days, even having to take my brand new iMac into the local Genius Bar to be completely reformatted.  I was completely gun-shy about trying again, but I got it to work.

Don't know if this is your issue, but I'll share just in case.

Windows 10 Pro ISO didn't fit on a 4GB flash drive, so I had put it onto My Passport for Mac.  That seems to have been the problem, as it had 2 partitions (one for file storage, one for Time Machine).  Today I picked up an 8GB flash drive (USB 2.0, as I've seen comments that 3.0 can be problematic) and copied the ISO to that.  Voila! Problem solved. Windows installed like a champ.  Don't forget to hit "format" when you're prompted to select the Bootcamp partition before installing.

Now if I could just get the 2 Windows applications I need to run to publish comparable Mac versions, I could get rid of Windows altogether and life would be good. One can only dream  ;-)

In regard to using a flash drive with windows 10 on it, thats the only way to do it. Buy a 8GB flash drive.

Bootcamp wont recognise a USB HD, no matter how much you format it. pro

Bootcamp did install for me without the flash drive, using the setup it uses with its partitioning process. Just make sure you dont have any other USB devices attached, as this will call out an error when you hit format at the start of the windows 10 install.
