Q: iMac Late 2012 3TB Fusion Drive installing Boot Camp?

Hi, I've been having issues installing Windows 7 via bootcamp and after doing some research online, I found out that the 3TB Fusion Drive did not support Boot Camp PRIOR to OS X 10.8.3.

I am running 10.10.2, however, it still isn't working. The Boot Camp Assistant freezes at the partition creating step.

Is there anyone who knows a way around this?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

Wired keyboard/mouse should be directly connected to the  iMac, as should be the USB installer. Please verify that it is a USB2. You have no choice right now but to power it off. When you power it back up, can you post the output of the two gpt and fdisk commands?

Power down your iMac, and run SMC and NVRAM Reset and power it up normally. The BCA modifies NVRAM, which keeps state across multiple reboots and since the installation did not complete, you are stuck in that installation state.

I have checked Disk Utility to see that the partition was created successfully. The hard disk space used is correct, just as I had set it. How do I go about with the Windows 7 installation?

Can you verify that your USB is a USB2 flash drive? Here is an example. Your devices should be under High-speed bus, not Superspeed-bus.

Can you post the output of the GPT and Fdisk commands from Terminal for validation? If BCA did not partition it correctly, you will see issues.

Connect your USB, shutdown your Mac, power it up and hold the Alt key, select Windows (not EFI Boot) from the USB and select the Bootcamp partition to install Windows.

Also, disk utility seems to say that my Boot Camp partition is rdisk1s4, so i tried the terminal commands with that disk:

    slwm:~ joshdy$ sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/rdisk1s4

    gpt show: /dev/rdisk1s4: mediasize=81998643200; sectorsize=512; blocks=160153600

    Disk: /dev/rdisk1s4 geometry: 9969/255/63 [160153600 sectors]

    Signature: 0xAA55

             Starting       Ending

#: id  cyl  hd sec -  cyl  hd sec [     start -       size]

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1: 00    0   0   0 -    0   0   0 [         0 -          0] unused

    2: 00    0   0   0 -    0   0   0 [         0 -          0] unused

    3: 00    0   0   0 -    0   0   0 [         0 -          0] unused

    4: 00    0   0   0 -    0   0   0 [         0 -          0] unused

Also, upon restarting the computer and holding the Option key, the Boot Camp partition does not show up, only Macintosh HD.

    1. Please post the output of diskutil list.

    2. There is no MBR on rdisk1s4, only on disk1 (or rdisk1).

    3. Your partitioning looks correct. If you run SMC/NVRAM Reset and connect the USB directly and power up the Mac and hold Alt/Option key, do you see a Windows icon from the USB Installer? If yes, select it.
