Q: HP printer will not connect with iMac

Long story short - electricians shut off some of circuit box - computer and printer (which I was using) went off. Computer came back on - printer would not.

Older HP deskjet 3050 all-in-one - showed "not connected". Blue light blinking - tried resetting. Said WPS time out. Put in original installer disc - said it was not compatible with 10.9.5 (only 10.6 and below). Found the new Software printer driver v3.1 for OS X on apple - downloaded it.

Went to System Preferences - Printers and Scanners, clicked the minus sign to delete the original printer which said Default/offline. Tried to add printer back in and it does nothing. Can't add anything - clicked plus again and "Name" is highlighted in blue, but it won't let me add in name, or any information. In the "add" window the printer in upper left hand shows Default. Blue light on printer is still blinking. What is going on with this?? Does it all go back to WPS time out? I can't get any work done without the printer.

I have wireless connection to printer.

Turn off your Mac, wait ten seconds then turn it back on.

Same with the printer.

Then go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print then click +

If you still can't add the printer, open the Finder.

From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.add.plist

Click Go then move the com.apple.print.add.plist file to the Trash.

Restart your Mac then try adding the printer again.

If you have the owner's manual for the printer, see if there are instructions on how to reset the printer. You can also check on-line at the manufacturer's website.
