The Time Capsule would be set up the same way with Bigpond as with any other provider's Internet service. You did not indicate whether this a new Time Capsule, but we will assume that this is the case.

Follow the instructions in the Time Capsule Setup Guide that came with your Time Capsule to connect an Ethernet cable from the Bigpond modem to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule. If the Bigpond modem has more than one Ethernet port, then choose any available LAN <--> port on the device.

Then, follow the instructions on page 12 in the Setup Guide to get the setup "wizard" running, which will literally walk you through the steps to configure the Time Capsule.

Bob has given you the general instructions.

Which modem do you have? Actual model number and version helps. Usually printed on the base.

Telstra no longer hands out pure modems.. so unless it is old it is a modem router.. CG3100 is the main one now.

You have two choices.. leave the router operation with the modem.. and bridge the TC..

Or turn off the router part of the modem and use the TC in full router mode..

I would suggest the later is best.. Telstra have messed up the firmware on several of their cable modems and the result is a very very poor quality router.

The modem side works fine.. and they are easy to fix up.

Thanks Bob for your reply.

Hi LaPastenague,

Thanks. I tried the later option i.e. turn off the router part of the modem and use the TC in full router mode but it isn't working for me.

The new TC and the Netgear are not connected to the internet now.

Steps I took.

On the NetGear

1. Switch NAT mode to Bridge mode

2. Disable the wireless access

Then I follow the instruction to connect the TC to the Netgear, although setup is complete there is no internet connection ?

Temporarily, connect your computer directly to the modem with an Ethernet cable. Can the computer get a good, stable Internet connection that way if you leave it connected for a few hours?

If not.....then there are more settings that will need to be changed on the modem. You cannot connect the Time Capsule until you have a good Internet connection when you test with the computer connected directly to the modem.

Did you power down the modem for about 20min.. ?? When you change router .. which is what your doing.. the cable router back at the cable distribution point needs to reallocate the IP to a new MAC address.

People forget this is important because using a router they miss.. it.

In Australia BPcable often works with a 5min power down.. so try just 5min.. then if it fails try again with 15-20min.

Bob's method is also helpful.. again you power cycle between each change of MAC address .. in the old days we solved it by spoofing the MAC but Apple provides no such options of course.
