Automatic filling dots at log in screen and safari typing issue, iMac 2012 Dec model. Need to power button off and restart. It has been for 3 months.

It happens frequently. Works again after power button in the back is pressed and restart. Sometimes during browsing, safari freeze/no response. At my first log in with one keyboard press, dots are filling the field of password and can't stop it. Back key doesn't work. Have to press power until screen is off. Restart again, sometimes work, sometimes the same situation, need to repeat two more times to get log in. OS X El Capitan is updated already. I need to mention one more. The 3TB fusion drive of 2012 27 inch iMac is replaced by apple in August. Hard drive is new. Operation system is new. It continued happening frequently. My apple wireless keyboard was tested with macbook for sometime and works fine. So where is the problem? Some in developers forum say it has to do with Apple's bluetooth interfered each other between magic keyboard, trackpad, and magic mouse. It seems to be happening since previous operating system as well as different iMac models including retina 5K. Help from your experience will be greatly appreciated.

Yes. I have Apple tel. support last week and error occurred during remote desktop typing by tech. He advised to test keyboard and trackpad at genius bar. Appt. on last Wed. Both passed tests. Just have a log in autofill dots again. When battery compartment of trackpad was opened, it returned to normal e.g. dots disappeared. Normal typing was accepted again and computer is fine now. Reconnect trackpad and using now ok. Genius bar wants to see Dec. 2012 iMac but I don't have time to drop off. Your thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Removing trackpad from connection to iMac solved. I need to use trackpad which is supposed to use together with wireless keyboard by apple. Should I switch to wired keyboard? Bluetooth interference is my diagnosis.

Well, it's more of a workaround than a solution, but it totally stops the issue. If you have the same issue that myself and another person in the thread linked below worked through, you can turn off your Magic Trackpad and wait enough time to confirm that it doesn't happen when the Trackpad is off.

This refers to the older, original Magic Trackpad. This does not apply to the Magic Mouse as I have had no problems with it. I don't know about the new "2" devices.

I have only heard of this issue on iMac, but I asked someone I know to test their old Magic Trackpad with their MacBook Pro on El Capitan.

El capitan 10.11 keyboard crazy after sleep

I did call Apple back yesterday and let them know my findings. I was told that the information will be passed along to the senior advisor who I originally worked with.

All the best,

John

I am not sure. It sounds like it is worth a try. I suspect it is something specific to the original Magic Trackpad. I have a feeling that if I went out and bought a Magic Trackpad 2 and left the bluetooth keyboard and Magic Mouse going, it would work fine.

If I were in your situation and needed the trackpad to work now, I think I would first try getting the trackpad away from the computer and keyboard a little bit. I have a sliding surface under my desk and I'm going to switch my trackpad back on and see how it behaves with a little distance between it and the keyboard. If it fails under these conditions, I'll pull out my USB Mac keyboard and see if that makes a difference.

All the best,

John

Did you ever try a wired keyboard? I've been working since last week without an error and all I've done is move my trackpad away from my keyboard and iMac... not sure which one made the difference. I have only used the trackpad and wireless keyboard during this time. The keyboard has been right under the iMac as usual and the mouse has been off.
