Drawing/mouse control on screen

I would like to be able to "draw" on screen. Where FCPX in particular is concerned, I would like to be able to perform certain functions on directly on screen with a stylus/pencil, like dragging the points around for mask or setting tracking points for an effect from frame to frame.

Is the only way to do this to get a drawing monitor or an interactive pen display? Or could I also use a tablet. I'm thinking in particular of the very large new Apple tablet that was just released, or even a Surface Pro, though I presume that it is not Mac compatible for this purpose).

Any information/advice would be greatly appreciated!

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1), i7 3.5 GHz, 32MB RAM, 4GB NVIDIA
