Hello ,
I have an Mac Pro 2008 and after I've plugged in an USB 4 port hub , 3 smartphones on the same time , the USB ports stop working .
I've tried to reset pram but it seems that the keyboard do not work at all . (no light , and the usb mouse do not light neither )
When I plug an USB key (which have an activity light) , it blinks few times and after that it stops and the key is not mounted .
Any idea what should I do ?

No . it doesn't help .
I've tried
1. stop/unplug/wait/plug/wait/start .
2. remove the battery
3.press the switch on the middle/back of the mainboard
none of these action worked for me .
If you can successfully boot the Mac then boot and open System Profiler and see if the USB hardware is listed.

You can see I've bought two USB cards .
One is working USB3.0/Concentrator and other it doesn't USB/USB2.0 HUB .(VIA Labs, Inc )
The Bus USB (embedded USB ) seems to be recognized( we can see 4 entries ) but none is working.
I have no idea when the built-in ports are not work since they are identified.
Regarding the Via card, do you have drivers for the OSX version yo are running?
Via card : I installed some driver from a chinese site but it doesn't work.
The problem with the USB card is that will not start working before the driver is loaded by the OS so I'm not able to use any startup key combination
(ex: reseting the PRAM or starting the bootcamp)
What OSX version are you running? If old enough an old USB 2 card may work
