i cracked my ipad screen and now i cant put in my password. what do i do?

when i was reaching to get my phone i rested my elbow on my iPad screen and now when i turn it on it doesn't let me shut it down or put in the password.i already tried restarting it but it just goes back to the same thing.please help me!!!
