Messages Issue

I have a macbook air and an iPhone 6. My messages app works on my macbook but everyone is receiving my messages from my email as opposed to my number. Both apple Id's are the same and i have tried signing out of FaceTime and messages on my macbook as most discussion answers have suggested, but have had no luck fixing the issue.

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

Associate your mobile number with your Apple ID, if you haven't already done so.

From the Messages menu bar, select

Messages ▹ Preferences... ▹ Accounts

and choose your phone number from the menu labeled
