Can I start from scratch to build a NEW Access Database on my Mac with Access Database Manager? And is this software the best option for me anyway??

I'm a research student so I can't pay loads for FileManager Pro etc., but I need to create a database to hold a large amount of data with descriptions, locations, maps, photos etc. I also need to be able to search different fields and show relationships between data. At some point I also expect to have to be able to extract/transfer some info for use on a PC, and print out individual forms as well as results from queries etc.

I've used Access Database quite a lot in the past and various specialist databases on PC and have created Access databases before, but it was a while ago and I've never used any Mac databases. I've done a bit of research today and ACCDB MDB Database Pro looks pretty good, costing £22.99. It does say you can create databases, but seems remarkable cheap if you are able to do everything on it! Has anyone used this/know about this software?

Any help appreciated - I don't want to waste money & time on the wrong product! What should I get??

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), null

Hmm interesting, I was not aware of this tool and thought it was still the situation that at best you could only do a basic view of an existing Access database on a Mac. If you really want to stick with Access databases I think your only options are either this tool or to use 'Boot Camp' to reboot your Mac in to Windows itself or of course run Windows in a virtual machine using either VMware Fusion, Parallels, or VirtualBox.

Most people have tended to go the FileMaker Pro route because it officially has both Mac and Windows versions which are fully compatible. Most people would also consider FileMaker Pro to be vastly more capable than Access.

You might want to have a look at this https://store.filemaker.com/GB/ENG/EDU/entry/form/ as there is Educational pricing available.

Thanks for your reply. I definitely don't want to use Windows! I love Mac and am not bothered about sticking to Access if there is something else that's similar (and cheapish) as long as it does all the stuff I'll need. When I tried searching for help on Google it really just mentioned using Mac databases for contacts and the most interesting articles were a few years old, so I wondered if anyone knows what the latest updates are like?

There are plenty of different database packages available to use on OS X. Here is a probably incomplete list -

FileMaker Pro

Access - via the tool you found

4th Dimension

Records

PostgreSQL - sort of built-in via Apple's Server.app

MySQL

MariaDB

SQLite - built-in to OS X

MongoDB

I think from your original post either Access or FileMaker are the best options. Have a look at the educational pricing for FileMaker.
