Why is date field is centered

In Numbers for iCloud (running in a browser), the current date fields are right-justified. When I edit one of the cells, it center-justifies it. I have to manually change it back to right-justified. Why is this happening? Is there a way to correct it? If I remember right, Numbers for iOS is doing the same thing. Date fields should always be right-justified so they all line up.
