Do FireWire 800 cables come with different size pins? I want to get one for my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro to transfer video from my Panasonic DV camcorder. I am wondering if I need a specific size pin to fit the port on my Mac.

I don't think so. Firewire 800 has 9 pins and looks like a capital Letter B lying down. Firewire 400 has 6 pins. You'd need a 6 to 4 pin cable or a 9 to 4 pin cable . Should play nicely with iMovie, too.

It depends on what port your camcorder has. A FW 800 cable looks like this (on the left side); the FW 400 plug is on the right:
