Hi,
So I have always used iMessage with my email and phone number and now recently linking my phone number isn't an option anymore and it won't let me send or receive messages from my phone. Any ideas how to fix this? It's still hooked up to my iCloud email address and its been the same phone number all along. It happened once I updated my computer to the new OS X

Are both your computer and your phone signed in to icloud with the same account?

Are you saying that on the iPhone in Settings > Messages > Send and Receive the iPhone number is not ticked ?
If so Sign Out of the Apple ID.
In Setting Messages slide the App closed/Quit so you cannot see the green part of the slide.
Wait for a couple of Minutes.
Slide app into action and wait until the number has Verified.
When it has you can reset the Apple ID and Text Forwarding if you use it.
