Q: Battery... is it an issue?

Hi guys,

 

Thanks in advance for your input!

 

I recently (about a week now) bought a brand new 2015 Macbook (12 inch), base model. 

 

I noticed after 5 charge cycles, the current max mAh has decreased significantly.  The original max was 5297 mAh and now (after 5 charge cycles) is 5064 mAh, making it 96% battery health (according to the Battery Health app).

 

I have a 2014 Macbook Pro 15 inch, as well to compare to.  That one has a max mAh of 8440; and after 102 charge cycles, it has 8339 mAh remaining... 99% health according to Battery Health app.

 

Why would the 12inch Macbook drop in battery health after only using it for 5 cycles?   Is this something to be concerned about?

    I don't watch my battery that close, but I bring mu 12"MacBook to work daily since launch and don't have a charger. Average daily use ranges 3~4 hours, some days in all day meetings using it ~8 hours straight. Still have not noted any performance issues with the battery. On a lighter day when it only used ~3 hours, I don't even bother charging it for the next day.

    Hi John0001,

     

    Thanks for your reply.  Would you do me a favor and, if possible, look at "About This Mac" and then "System Report"... then "Power" tab on the left column, and tell me the "Full Charge Capacity (mAh)" and "Cycle Count"?

     

    I understand that you charge your macbook overnight, so pretty much daily (on average), right?

    Sure thing

    Full Charge Capacity: 4764

    Cycle count: 76

     

    not even close to what you reported ober the first 5 charges.

     

    i woudnt say I charge it daily, and more that I charge it when needed. I don't feel comfortable leaving for work with < 50% on most days. It does not get much use on weekends. I "try" to unplug it when fully charged, but it has sat on the charger overnight plenty of times.

    I am at 4704 with 29 cycles and current is 4534 yet I am at 100%.. I think its safe to say these batteries in these systems are CRAP?
